Last week, just a day before diving into conversations with Yuval Noah Harari and Brian Green, I got to hear Stephan Meier from Columbia Business School share his take on the future of work at the Needed.Education Artificial Intelligence Conference. His talk was a refreshing perspective on how AI’s not just here to take our jobs but to make them better.

Stephan laid it out simply: AI is more about enhancing our work than replacing us. He talked about how integrating AI into the workplace means we can shift our focus from the routine tasks to the ones that really matter. It’s about making work more meaningful and, in the process, changing how we manage and approach our jobs.

From over a decade of working in tech, I can say that what Stephan’s pointing out isn’t just theoretical. It’s happening, and it’s making a tangible difference. The collaboration between humans and machines is already changing the game, making us more productive by automating the low-value tasks and putting the spotlight on the important ones.

What I took away from Stephan’s presentation is how crucial it is to see work as something more than just work. It’s about meaningful engagement, creativity, and the collaboration between humans and AI. This shift isn’t just about adopting new technologies; it’s about changing our mindset towards work itself.

The future of work, according to Stephan, looks promising, where automation lifts us rather than limits us. And from what I’ve seen and experienced, we’re well on our way there.

How has AI affected your work? are you more productive ? is your work more or less meaningful now than it was a decade ago?
