As we wrap up another week, I wanted to share some thoughts on the impact of having the right tools in our lives. Whether it’s for work, hobbies, or personal projects, the right tool can truly transform your experience.
I have a bit of a fascination with buying and evaluating tools, inspired by Adam Savage’s advice (yes, from Mythbusters!). He suggests only investing in a pro or expert tool once you’ve been limited by the cheaper version. A perfect analogy is writing pens: there’s no need to buy an expensive pen if a disposable Bic meets all your needs. However, no matter how good your cheap pen is, it can’t provide the same experience as a top-of-the-line one.
This principle applies to all types of tools, from drills to cars, mobile phones to computer keyboards. Personally, my weakness is for keyboards. I love buying, customizing, and using them. Fun fact: during the pandemic, I learned a new keyboard layout (Colemak), and it’s been a game-changer for me!
To not leave AI fully aside, I believe today’s post might help those wondering whether to pay for the pro versions of their AI tools. Most of the time, the answer might be no, unless you love the way a specific tool makes you feel when you use it.
What about you? What tool brings you joy and makes your tasks a pleasure? Let me know in the comments below!
Wishing you all a fantastic weekend ahead!
P.S. Here is a picture of me showcasing some of my favorite tools for an interview during the pandemic, including my keyboards!
